What are the four main aspects of Wellness:
•Social Wellness is the ability to relate to and connect with other people in our world. Here are a few suggested activities that will support you in cultivating social wellness—use these as a starting point to inspire your own ideas! Go to the gym, the park, or a yoga, fitness or dance class Take up a hobby and find others who share your interest Join groups on www.meetup.com or other social networking sites. Becoming engaged with other people in your community.
•Emotional Wellness is the ability to understand ourselves and cope with the challenges life can bring. Emotions are natural things. For example, we all experience emotions like sadness, anxiety, and anger. But the way we feel our emotions can actually be quite different. For some of us, emotions are stronger, last longer, or have a bigger impact on our health. Others may experience some emotions far more often than other emotions. For example, in depression, people often feel sad more, and in anxiety disorders, people often feel worried more.
•Spiritual Wellness is the ability to establish peace and harmony in our lives. Spiritual wellness provides us with systems of faith, beliefs, values, ethics, principles and morals. A healthy spiritual practice may include examples of volunteerism, social contributions, belonging to a group, fellowship, optimism, forgiveness and expressions of compassion. Spiritual wellness allows one to live a life consistent with his or hers own belief and moral systems, while we establish our feeling of purpose and find meaning in life events. Achieving spiritual wellness means accepting who you are and feeling whole within your body, mind and spirit…
•Mind. Challenge your mind by recognizing creative abilities and finding ways to expand your knowledge and skills. Your mind and body are powerful allies. How you think can affect how you feel. And how you feel can affect your thinking.
An example of this mind-body connection is how your body responds to stress. Constant worry and stress over jobs, finances, or other problems can cause tense muscles, pain, headaches, and stomach problems. It may also lead to high blood pressure or other serious problems.footnote1, footnote1
On the other hand, constant pain or a health problem like heart disease can affect your emotions. You might become depressed, anxious, and stressed, which could affect how well you treat, manage, or cope with your illness.
But your mind can have a positive effect on your health, too. Having a positive outlook on life might help you better handle pain or stress and stay healthier than someone who is less hopeful.
